The saint, the holy scripture and service of God are inevitable for spiritual betterment. The holy scripture puts forward the tenets, holy service of God leads to purification and holy association develops spiritualism. Service of God is related to the body, the scripture is related to intelligence and the saint is related to the soul of the devotee. To practise holy association means to send the soul regularty to the spiritual school. The soul can be trained only in the school of the saints. Holy association is the magical herb that removes the impurities of worldly life. It is the magical creeper called Norvel (Aristolochia Indica Linn) that removes the effect of serpent-bite for fighting against the poisonous serpents of worldly life, and holy association is also the way to attain supreme bliss in this worid and thereafter. So Shree Brahmanand Swami in a devotional song sings:

Sant samaagam Kije, Ho nishadin Sant samaagam kije.

While the people of the modern age, wandering after material welfare have absolutely no time to sit before the saints, how can they get the benefit of holy association ? Association, here means the spiritual enlightenment through mind, action and words between the enlightened preceptor and the true disciple. Even in adverse circumstances.
